poker chips
Hundreds Of Gone poker chipsAn investigation into alleged public corruption at the Colorado Division of Gaming includes "literally hundreds" of missing poker chips and slot machine tokens, the Jefferson County district attorney's office said Tuesday. The case, which involves three former gaming officials, is in front of a grand jury. The poker chips are in $1, $5 and $25 denominations, but could be valued higher depending on the collector market rate, said Dennis Hall, the Jefferson County senior deputy district attorney investigating the case. "We are trying to determine right now which ones are missing," Hall said. "It appears they are from all different kinds of casinos." The three workers who are under investigation are Houston "Huck" Henderson, former chief of investigations; Phil Wargo, former field operations supervisor; and Steve Barber, former agent in charge of the division's Cripple Creek office. Henderson and Wargo declined comment on the advice of their attorneys. Barber couldn't be reached for comment. As part of its investigation, the district attorney's office also sent a letter to 100 local casino chip collectors asking them to part with any items they obtained from gaming employees. The letter, dated June 26, said the office is offering a "chip amnesty," program, so no chips or tokens will be confiscated if collectors voluntarily provide information. That upset at least one local collector, Lee Bruton, a Golden man who served as president of a Colorado chip collectors club. "There's an inherent threat unless you volunteer your collection," Bruton said. "If you don't volunteer it, you're out of the amnesty program." Bruton, a friend of Henderson's and Barber's, said he never bought any chips from them. He said he got his chips from the manufacturer in Maine, from other dealers, from shows in Las Vegas or in antique stores. Collecting casino chips is much like collecting coins or baseball cards. People buy chips and tokens in different monetary denominations and from different casinos. Rare chips are worth the most. Hall said the letter wasn't meant to be threatening. But collectors need to know they might possess stolen property that must be returned, he said. The district attorney's office has written a report on its investigation and given it to the Division of Gaming, which won't release it, citing confidentiality rules. The division won't comment on a current investigation, said Maren Rubino, a gaming spokeswoman. Two employees of the division's Cripple Creek office brought their accusations to the district attorney in April, Hall said. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is comparing records from the chip manufacturer and the Division of Gaming.

Shuffling poker chips
Steps For Shuffling Poker Chips
Shuffling chips can be frustrating at first but in time it becomes easy. Starting out, it is easier to learn on a soft surface like a pillow or a couch. Note that on a soft surface the thumb can stay on the right side of the right stack the entire time because the initial lift can occur by simply pushing the two stacks together. Once the first few chips fall into place on the bottom, the rest of the chips seem to follow easier as your hand moves up the pile. One fun exercise is to start with 2 stacks of different color chips. If you shuffle them consistently you can notice certain patterns. Always put the right stack on top of the left stack such that the bottom left chip is at the bottom of the combined stack while the top right chip is at the top of the combined stack. Once you shuffle the chips together take the top half and put them on the right, leaving the bottom stack on the left. The shuffle is repeated until the chips are back to the same colors. If you have eight chips in each stack then you get all the same color chips back in the same stacks after 4 shuffles. The list below shows the number of shuffles necessary for stacks of other sizes.8==>47==>126==>105==>6 4==>3 3==>4 2==>2 1==>1 Another interesting exercise is to follow the same guidelines until the chips are combined into one stack. At that point the top half can be put in the left pile while the bottom half stay in the right pile. When the exercise is done in this way the list showing the necessary shuffles for different size stacks is as follows: 8==>47==>46==>65==>54==>33==>32==>21==>1The main thing to remember is that the more you practice shuffling the chips the easier it gets.

Cardinal Poker Chips
These poker chips are available at many department stores and shops throughout North America. They are usually sold in tin boxes as part of a Texas Hold'em poker kit. They are a little better than what you would expect but they are still very cheap chips. They do have a bit of a rubbery feel to them. The printing of the suits is rather rough and uneven. They have the same sound and feel to them as the 7 gram Soprano chips have, not bad and they do have a bit of a thud but they also sound hollow. There are no edge spots of any kind on this chip. The chip was 39.21mm in diameter. It was 3.60mm thick which would make three chips 10.80mm thick. It weighed 7 grams.

Bikini Watchers Poker Chips
These are all R.T. Plastics poker chips using the same mold but different labels. These are high quality chips used in many casinos. They all have very nice multi-colored labels. The labels could be peeled off and then stuck back on without any noticeable damage. The labels are very high quality and are hard to scratch or tear. Once you take the label off there are slightly visible, but un-feelable, injection mold marks. There are no edge ridges on this chip. Scratching the plastic composite left almost no visible marks. The plastic has a much softer feel than a typical 11.5 gram composite chip. These chips have a good sound and feel and balance. They stack well but are a bit slippery. I received numerous samples of these chips. Sample diameters were 39.40, 39.47 and 39.54mm. Three chips stacked together were 10.06mm thick.

Apache Poker Chips
Apache poker chips are a very nice ChipCo chip similar to the Crystal Oyster chips. These chips have a very appealing look, a bit more traditional than some ChipCo's. Like the Crystal Oysters, they have very appealing and mellow colors with a nice laid-back look. If I lived in Phoenix ... I'd probably buy these chips to go along with my wife's native American art collection. These chips come with denominations and in all the standard colors. The pimple on this chip is very small and surrounded by a rectangular indentation. It was one of the less noticeable of the ChipCo chips. There are no edge ridges on this chip. Different chip colors have several spots, some have tiny stripes.

4 Aces Poker Chips
These 11.5 gram metal insert poker chips are very similar to most common 11.5 gram composites, the main difference being that they have a full inlay that is painted on the chip - there is no sticker. The graphics are very high quality, it was impossible to scratch the graphics with a fingernail but quite easy to scratch with a knife. When scratched, the white base color of the chip could be seen underneath. These chips come in 13 different denominations all the way from .05¢ to $10,000, that's the most I've ever seen offered. I was sent numerous samples of this chip. Sample diameters were 40.05, 40.00, 40.01 and 40.02mm, three chips stacked together were 10.01mm thick. There are eight stripes and no edge ridge on this chip, the stripes are not painted on, they are solid through the chip. There are no edge ridges on this chip, I could not see an injection mold spot.
